What are armor seams? The role of armor seams

Jan 04, 2024|

Armoring joints can directly divide the components of infrastructure buildings into two or more independent parts. This mainly allows the building to expand and contract horizontally along the long direction when displacement occurs.
The function of armor seams:
1. It has a formwork function. During construction, there is no need for additional support for the formwork. Each sub-silo of the floor is divided by installing this system. There is no need to remove the formwork after the floor is poured. The construction is efficient and saves a lot of labor and time.

2. It has the function of protecting concrete edges and corners. The edge-protected flat steel is anchored into the concrete by shear bolts. It protects the fragile concrete edges at the expansion joints of the concrete floor and has ultra-high durability; it is used throughout the entire building. Within the design life span, the later maintenance cost is almost zero, which greatly reduces the later maintenance work.

3. It has an overall force transmission function. It uses a discontinuous force transmission plate with a sheath to transmit the load from one side of the expansion joint to the other side under the action of vertical load. In addition, it also allows the sub-silo floors on both sides of the expansion joint to always be coordinated and maintained at the same level in the case of uneven settlement of the foundation, and there will be no uneven steps on both sides of the expansion joint.

Connected armor joints can prevent cracking, settlement, and shrinkage deformation. In cast-in-place overall reinforced concrete structures, temporary strip joints are only retained during the construction period. According to project needs, the retention time is generally not less than one month. During this period, shrinkage deformation can be completed by 30% to 40%. The pouring time of the post-casting belt should be selected when the temperature is low (but it should be positive). Cement or concrete mixed with trace amounts of aluminum powder can be used. Its strength level should be one level higher than the strength of the component to prevent the gap between the new and old concrete. Cracks appear, creating weak spots. The concrete is then poured into a dense structure to form a continuous and integral structure. It can also reduce the temperature stress of shrinkage deformation of reinforced concrete.
