Workshop Floor Joints

Here are some factors to consider when choosing an armor joint:

Building Use. Consider whether the building will only be used once during its life, or whether it will change. You can future-proof your floor by choosing a versatile joint such as Wawe or Sinus Slide. These joints allow vehicles to freely move across the floor in any direction, now and in the future.

Traffic. Consider the type of wheels used, as well as the frequency and speed of traffic ("load"). Vehicle direction determines the impact forces the joint can withstand. Where vehicles will not pass directly across, a straight joint such as Terajoint can be used. Otherwise, choose a shaped joint such as Wawe or Sinus Slide to protect against impacts.

Service. If cleaning chemicals are frequently used, stainless steel joints can withstand these chemicals and look more aesthetically pleasing. If the joint is used for exterior slabs and/or may be frequently exposed to moisture, choose a galvanized finish.

Hazards. If the building handles substances that cannot penetrate into the ground, or if the joint gap itself is a hazard to pedestrians, use a sinus or parallel slide joint to permanently cover the gap, or fill it with a joint sealant.

Floor Structure. "Seamless" flooring includes armor joints, but not saw-cut joints, so gap sizes can be slightly larger. Consider the size of the possible gap, and how to fill it. Sinus or parallel-slip joints can handle larger gaps and ensure that no joint gaps are exposed.
